When the subject is absent, we try to find the missing presence in what remains.

Tuesday 25 August 2015, 11:00 AM–Thursday 27 August 2015, 4:00 PM
Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25 and Thursday 25 August 11am – 4pm
For this year’s Summer School, we will be starting with the Absent Presence exhibition, new display of works from our collection, which looks at how art captures a moment in time and asks how a subject can be present in an artwork, yet absent at the same time.
We’ll be taking themes of Imagination and Environment, Objects and Order and Life and Death. We’ll be meeting curators, delving into the gallery art stores (where all the art that isn’t on display is kept) and visiting other creative spaces including Castlefield Art Gallery and Manchester Metropolitan University’s digital hub ‘The Shed’.
You’ll be recording everything you do with polaroid cameras, objects and art-making, then creating your own digital exhibition to share with your friends, potential course leaders and employers, as well as our online gallery visitors.
To book your place just fill out and email back the booking form (if you’re under 16 you’ll need to ask a parent or guardian to email or post it back for you). Do it now!
