‘Deeds Not Words’ a new statue for Emeline Pankhurst.

Manchester Art Gallery
Friday 10 March 2017–Friday 31 March 2017

Did you know that all but one of the statues in Manchester city centre are of men? There are politicians, scientists, a bishop, even an American president. The exception is Queen Victoria in Piccadilly Gardens. The WoManchester Statue Project launched its campaign for a new statue of an important Manchester woman back in 2014 and last year you chose to celebrate Manchester born Emmeline Pankhurst from a longlist of 20 important women.

Now it’s time to choose one of these six shortlisted designs – on display in the gallery atrium from Friday 10 March – for the statue. Help the selection panel make the right choice and vote for your favourite design here. Or visit the gallery and vote in person.

The statue will be unveiled in front of No. 1 St Peter’s Square, on International Women’s Day 2019.
