Free CPD for Manchester Schools 2018/19
Wednesday 27 February, 3–5pm
Responding to Martin Parr, photographer Harriet Hall will share techniques in framing and filtering. There will be a focus on using phones and tablets as well as cameras and give teachers ideas on how pupils can capture the world they inhabit.
Thursday 14 March, 3–5pm
Responding to Leonardo da Vinci you will work with an artist to develop ideas and techniques on observing and mark making. There will be a focus on addressing the fear many feel when faced with a blank piece of paper, by sharing fun and accessible approaches to drawing.
Wednesday 24 April, 3–5pm
Storyteller Felicity Goodman and visual artists Samantha Hull and Venessa Scott have devised tours of the Gallery that share some of their practice. These focus on behaviours for learning including collaboration, play risk taking and resilience that support creativity and well-being.
Wednesday 3 July, 4–6pm
We host a biannual event to discuss future developments at the Gallery. Curators, learning staff and teachers explore future programmes and discuss how these can best support learning in the formal sector from KS1 to Further Education.
Whole school training
We deliver bespoke training for schools either as a twilight session or for a full day as part of an Inset programme. Themes we have helped schools explore include literacy through creative writing and storytelling, historical enquiry through Ancient Greece and Victorian Manchester, art through skills development and visual literacy.
