Summary
An archway leading into a narrow street. There are oriel windows on the first storey of buildings to each side which overhang the street. There are figures seated at the bottom left corner and a horse drawn covered cart to the upper midground right. The horses are facing the viewer. A bracketed lamp is fixed to the right side of the arch and there is an inscription in French on a tablet above the archway. Hedley Fitton was an artist noted for his architectural etchings including street scenes. He was born in Didsbury, Manchester, in 1858 and resident there during the 1890s when he was an editor and illustrator for the Daily Chronicle in Manchester. He later moved permanently to Surrrey where he died in 1929.
