Summary
Portrait of Sir Robert Peel (1750-1830), 1st Baronet, industrialist and politician. He ran the family owned calico printing company Haworth, Peel and Yates in Blackburn. He later set up a cotton factory in Tamworth, Staffordshire, with labour provided by London's workhouse children. He entered Parliament in 1790 as a Tory MP. In 1802 he produced the Health and Morals Apprentices Act limiting the working hours of apprenticed children in cotton mills to twelve hours a day. He was the father of Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel.
