Summary
Portrait of Right Honourable Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey (1764-1845) who entered parliament as member for Northumberland, 1786; opposed Pitt; took an active interest in political life and held several offices; Prime Minister 1830-1834; introduced and finally carried the Reform Act in 1832 and the Slavery Abolition Bill in 1833. A period of rapid social and political change followed. Earl Grey tea is named after him. See 1920.160 for a portrait of his wife, Lady Mary Elizabeth Grey, and their two daughters.
