Seated Figure

Kenneth Armitage 1916 - 2002

Summary

This apparently abstract work shows perhaps two seated figures. In the upper left of the composition are two head-like shapes and there are several forms in the lower part, which could be limbs. To the right is a connected horizontal and vertical line suggesting the arm of a chair. The print is done using only dark grey and beige. Kenneth Armitage was head of the sculpture department at the Bath Academy of Art from 1946-1956. He represented Britain at the 1958 Venice Biennale along with William Scott and S W Hayter.
