The Tower and Mint

Thomas Shotter Boys 1803 - 1874

Summary

The Tower of London occupies most of the middle ground of this exterior view. The complex of buildings can be seen to the right. To its left there is a street, a garden and a row of buildings. In the background to the left is the Mint, a white building of classical style. In the closer foreground there is a man who seems to be drawing the view. Several children are around him. Four of them are playing on the ground and two are standing to the left of the man looking at him. A boy is seating with his back to the viewer to his right. Diverse figures and two carts, each drawn by one horse, can be seen between this group and the Tower. From the series of prints 'Original Views of London As It Is', 1842.
