Lawrence Alma-Tadema 1836 - 1912

Summary

An ornate classical interior with three women at the foreground. The young woman to the left is lying on a couch, wrapped in a sheet. The woman at the centre is seated at the end of the couch and is reading a scroll held in her left hand. The woman to the right is kneeling by a metal stove and leaning over it to the left. There are steps at the centre behind these figures, leading to an upper level where more figures can be seen. The floor has a mosaic tile pattern. Published by J.S. Virtue and Co., 1896.
