Horses Grazing 3

John Nash 1893 - 1977

Summary

In this print not much of the landscape can be seen as the space is filled by four horses; only patches of grass are visible and a few tree trunks in the top left hand corner. The four horses fill the rest of the composition; two of the horses are seen in the distance in the top right, one in the middle ground and another in the foreground. The two horses seen in the distance are both facing to the right and have similar stances as they stand with their necks bent and their heads lowered towards the ground. The white horse in the foreground is also facing to the right but it can only partially be seen as most of its body is cut out of the composition; only it’s upper back, neck and part of its head are visible. The horse in the middle ground is black and, unlike the other horses, it is facing to the left. Its head is less lowered, turned slightly to the right, and its tail swishes to the left.
