Interior

John Nash 1893 - 1977

Summary

The interior depicted in this print is very detailed as it is filled with a number of different items. It is also quite dark as the light falls from the bottom left and therefore there are strong contrasts between light and shade. In the middle of the foreground there is a wicker armchair with large, patterned cushions on it. The chair is positioned to the right of the fireplace and it is sat upon a rug that is seen in the right hand corner. On top of the mantle piece is a bird ornament and just below this hanging next to the fireplace are some bellows. By the hearth and to the left of the chair there is a coal bucket and, behind this next to the fireplace, is a table with different boxes upon it. In the back of the room, behind the chair there is a large piano with the lid down and a case upon it. The piano faces out towards the window in the back wall of the interior which has the curtains drawn back to the right. There is also a large vase of flowers just behind the piano, in front of the window.
