Bookplate of Eleanor Cecil
Summary
At the base of the image there is the inscription: ELEANOR.CECIL. The inscription is bordered either side by two lines and seems to add weight to the foreground of the landscape above. The landscape shows a cliff scene, with chalk cliffs curving towards a central vanishing point. The cliffs are being lapped by waves which look increasingly fierce as they follow the curve of the cliffs towards the centre of the composition. In the background the land above the cliffs rises to the upper right running across the horizon line and the sky is therefore only a small part of the composition in the upper left hand corner.
