The Little Visitation

Gwendolen Raverat 1885 - 1957

Summary

The linework of this print makes it appear quite stylised as it has strong, distinct outlines, very little tonal gradation and there is no background. The scene depicted shows two women kissing on the lips, their heads positioned in the top right hand corner. Both women are seen in profile with their hair tied back and wearing long dresses. The woman on the right is seated but she stretches upwards, raising her head to reach the other woman who she pulls towards her by placing both arms around her neck. The woman on the left is standing but she is bending down to the other woman with her hands holding on to the other woman's arms so that she can return her embrace.
