Clare Bridge
Summary
The scene shows the stone bridge that crosses the river between two of the courts of Clare College at the University of Cambridge. The bridge is quite ornate at the top with coats of arms in the brickwork and large spheres along the top, but the base is very strudy with three archways, the two archways at the side being slightly smaller than the central one. On the bridge in the top right hand corner is a man peering over the edge watching five ducks as they swim under the arch on the right. Past the bridge in the top left hand corner it is possible to see the iron gates and wooded area that it leads to. In the lower right hand corner there is a stone ledge which appears to indicate the artists vantage point and from where they were able to catch the reflections of the bridge in the water.
