The Tithe Barn, Bony Court, Hampshire

William Palmer Robins 1882 - 1959

Summary

This barn interior seems to be of a rather grand scale with exposed beams and a pitched roof. The barn is rather shadowy particularly in the left hand side foreground and in the back of the barn at the centre right. The majority of the beams are positioned diagonally and are part of the ceiling support, but there is a large beam running vertically just off centre and a beam connected to this in the middle which runs horizontally to the left hand side. These two beams are particularly striking and serve to divide up the composition. Just visible at the base of the vertical column is a man working with a pitchfork however, the deep shadow and large amount of detail in the work make it hard to see him.
