The Convent Door

Ada M Shrimpton 1858 - 1925

Summary

The scene which shows the entrance to a convent is very light and colourful. It appears to be a sunny spring day due to the yellow wash in the top of the painting and the pink blossom on the tree which grows to the right of the door but arches across the top half of the scene. In the centre of the work is the panelled green door with an arched lunette above it. There are two frescoes of male saints either side of the door and in the lunette there appear to be other saints although these figures are indistinct. The work seems to have faded in places and there is some discolouration, particularly in the green of the door and the tree which are becoming more blue.
