Francisco Goya Y Lucientes 1746 - 1828
Summary
A donkey is sitting to the left, having its portrait painted by an ape sitting to the right. The portrait is on an easel behind the animals, and shows that the ape has painted the donkey as wearing a wig. The ape holds an artist's palette and brush. The donkey’s neck and head, as well as the palette are the whitest tones in the picture, while the rest is in mid and dark tones.

The background has been bitten longest in the acid, while two furthur tones are visible on the ass's neck; the lighter shade has had a shorter bite in the acid. The ass's head and monkey's palette are stopped out so no acid has bitten on these areas at all. the monkey's canvas is the darkest area, achieved through the use of etched parallel lines.
