Buen Viage (Bon Voyage) published 1799 Francisci de Goya 1746-1828 Etching, burnished aquatint and burin Goya was a pioneer in the use of aquatint. here he has aquatinted the whole plate and burnished back several layers; only a few lines of etching define the ghoulish forms. The highlighted areas have been burnished back with only faint grains of the original resin visible. The eerie figure etched to the left was bitten in acid for a shorter spell than the rest of the plate. Purchased 1983.869
