Summary

A portrait of a young man in an ornate frame. The subject is facing to the left, head turned to face the viewer. He is wearing armour and a long curly wig. The base of the frame is decorated with an heraldic device at the centre and has a helmet to the right and the hilt of a sword to the left. The frame is inscribed "JOHN DUKE OF ARGYLE AND GREENWICH".
