Figure of a Woman

Parmegiano

Summary

A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing by Parmegiano. The drawing is in red chalk, and is a full-length portrait of a standing woman. The woman is wearing a floor-length dress and looking to the right. Her arms are indistinct, and there are cloud-like shapes around her arms and feet. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "10. PARMEGIANO (FRANCESCO MAZZUOLI) (b. 1504; d. 1540) FIGURE OF A WOMAN Collection of the Duke of Devonshire, K.G., Chatsworth. From the Flinck Collection. Red chalk, 17.1 x 9.4 cm. (6 3/4 x 3 3/4 in.). A slight but captivating study imbued with a native grace in contrast to the more abstract rhythm so frequently sought by the master. The tender bloom of the surface, so attractive in the original, is unhappily lost in the reproduction. Perhaps connected with the designs for the 'Madonna della Steccata', Parma. A. G. B. R."
