Summary

A frieze of classical figures with panels in between. The central panel has a naked man asleep watched over by a woman with a cresent moon headdress. There are two cherubs to the upper left corner of the panel. There are round panels to each side of the centre and a decorative border to the top and bottom edge of the frieze. The top border has a shell motif and the lower border has garlands of fruit and flowers surrounding mask-like faces. Plate 7 from the series 'Galeriae Farnesianae Icones'. A view of a fresco in the Galleria Farnese in Rome. At the centre are Diana and Endymion. Diana embraces Endymion who is asleep in the woods. In a roundel to the left, is Orpheus in the underworld, turning back to look at Eurydice. In a roundel to the right, the rape of Europa. Etching with some engraving c.1674.
