Summary

A panelled design with classical scenes and sculptural figures. The centre panel has a large nude male figure to the left, holding reed pipes. Three nude female figures are emerging from water to the right. The central figure has a cloth billowing over her head. There are nude male sculptural figures to each side of the central panel and a smaller panel at the top. Plate 1 from the series, 'Galeriae Farnesianae Icones', after a detail from the freso paintings in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome by Annibale Carracci. Published by Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi in Rome c1674. At the centre is Polyphemus seated on a rock and playing the pipes. Galatea is seen to the right, approaching in a carriage carried by dolphins. She is accompanied by two nymphs. Etching with some engraving.
