Fishes

Dorothy Carr 1923

Summary

The colours in this work are extremely vibrant, consisting of a bright yellow and red and three shades of blue running from light to dark. The work shows a plate with fish lying horizontally across it. Most distinguishable are the two fish at the top with their heads to the right as they are seen whole where as the other fish overlap one another. Two heads and one tail can be seen on the right and one head and two tails on the left. The plate and fish are rendered from bold, simple lines and blocks of colours which in places are speckled with small coloured spots. The background is creared from the middle shade of blue, to the left it is more densely applied through a stippled effect and to the right there are thicker horizontal lines with the darkest shade of blue present as well.
