Summary

A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing presumed to be by Cima da Conegliano. The drawing shows a landscape with hilly cliffs in the foreground, a town in the middle ground and more hills beyond. There are two crowds of people around the centre of the composition, and the figures in the lower of these crowds are carrying spears. There are several towers in the town, all with a different design, and a bridge towards the left crosses a river. On the hills beyond there are more settlements and groups of trees. The orientation of the paper is portrait. The text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society for prints 5 and 6 have been grouped together. This texts reads: "Nos. 5, 6 CIMA DA CONEGLIANO (?) TWO LANDSCAPES British Museum, 1900-5-15-1. From the Collection of the Earl of Warwick. Pen and bistre, with some brush-work. 26.2 x 19.5 cm. (10 5/16 x 7 11/16 in.). Two sides of a sheet of studies which, since its acquisition by the British Museum, has usually been ascribed to Cima. The name Basaiti has, however, been suggested, on the ground of the resemblance to a drawing in the Albertina attributed to that artist."
