A Female Saint

Summary

A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing from the Netherlandish School. The drawing shows a woman wearing thick drapery, looking down and to the right. Her right arm rests on her abdomen - which is slightly swollen according to fashions of the time - and her left had holds some of the fabric of her clothes at her side. The drapery is also wrapped over her head like a veil. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "No. 17 SCHOOL OF THE NETHERLANDS (Fifteenth Century) A FEMALE SAINT Collection of Sir Edward Poynter, P. R. A. From the J. Beck Collection (Fagan 274). Pen and ink. 26.7 x 9.9 cm. (10 1/2 x 3 7/8 in.). This may be a study for the Blessed Virgin, but it is perhaps more probable that Elizabeth in the Visitation is intended."
