Summary

A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing from the English School. It shows studies of the busts of two boys. The one on the left is drawn in black in and has long hair. He is wearing a jacket with lace on the sleeves and buttons up the front, and he is looking towards the right. The boy on the right is drawn in red chalk and is looking upwards and to the left. He is wearing a cap, which fastens with ties at his ears. In the top left corner of the composition is a light sketch of a child's arm. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "No. 40 ENGLISH SCHOOL (Seventeenth Century) STUDIES OF TWO BOYS HEADS Collection of A. A. de Pass, Esq. (formerly in the Collections of Jules Dupan and Philippe Huart). Marks of two other collections on the drawing have not been identified. Red chalk and black chalk. 17.6 x 19.1 c,. (7 x 7 1/2 in.). Head and shoulders of a young boy, nearly in full face but turned a little to the right and looking right; in black chalk. Also a separate study of the head of a younger child looking up left; in red chalk. This drawing, though it has passed through the hands of French collections, seems certainly to be English, towards the end of the seventeenth century, though it is difficult to identify the hand. The name of Thomas Flatman (b. 1637; d. 1688) has been suggested. L. B."
