Study for a Virgin and Child
Summary
A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing by Correggio. The sketch is in red chalk, and shows a woman holding a child. The child's face is pressed against the woman's, and its arm is reaching up around her neck. An oval outline, possibly of an alternative head position, is visible across the woman's face. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "No. 10 CORREGGIO (ANTONIO ALLEGRI) (b. about 1494; d. 1534) STUDY FOR A VIRGIN AND CHILD Collection of the Hon. A. Holland-Hibbert. From the Reynolds and Hibbert Collections. Red chalk. 11.1 x 9 cm. (4 3/8 x 3 9/16 in.). A charmingly intimate and sensitive example of Correggio's handiwork; probably a first idea for one of his early Madonnas about the year 1514/15. S. C."
