Portrait of Michel Le Tellier the Elder
Summary
A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing by Claude Mellan. The drawing is a portrait of Michel Le Tellier. His facial features are detailed, but his clothes are only loosely sketched in and there is no background detail. The drawing has a double black border and an inscription underneath naming the subject and the artist. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "No. 25 CLAUDE MELLAN (b. 1598; d. 1678) PORTRAIT OF MICHEL LE TELLIER THE ELDER Collection of Captain E. G. Spencer Churchill, Northwick Park. Black chalk. 12.8 x 10 cm. (5 x 3 15/16 in.). Michel Le Tellier, chancellor of France (1603-1685). Mellan never engraved Le Tellier's portrait: but for a very similar presentment compare Nanteuil's engraving (Robert-Dumesnil 120). Both drawings have been inlaid and had inscriptions added in the eighteenth century (?). A. E. P."
