Landscape Study

Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot 1796 - 1875

Summary

A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. The darkness of the charcoal and the long, sweeping lines create a bleak and windswept feel in this landscape. A small group of tall trees are the main feature, their tops bent over. A hillside rises behind these to the right, and some long grasses are blowing in the foreground of the drawing. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "13. JEAN-BAPTISTE-CAMILLE COROT (b. 1796; d. 1875) LANDSCAPE STUDY Collection of Arthur Kay, Esq. Charcoal. Signed Corot. 30.2 x 46.7 cm. (11 7/8 x 18 3/8 in.). The painting for which this study was made (if it is not an independent drawing) has not been identified, though it recalls familiar elements in many of Corot's pictures. L. B."
