Model of Kabakov's Palace of Projects

Ilya and Emilia Kabakov 1933

Summary

A wooden scale model by Manchester model maker Dave Harold of the Palace of Projects by artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov. The Palace of Projects was presented by artranspennine98 and Artangel in collaboration with Manchester Art Gallery. It took place at Upper Campfield Market in Manchester 23 May - 16 August 1998. Like a Great Exhibition of Everyday Obsessions, inside 'The Palace' was displayed a vast range of models and maquettes, plans and paintings made by melancholics and misfits, absurd hobbyists and down-to-earth dreamers to form a spiralling succession of tragi-comic proposals to make the world a better place. The model was acquired as a legacy of this project which was originally conceived by the Kabakovs for Upper Campfield Market. The Palace, as presented in this model, was a two-storey structure resembling a snail in its layout.
