Rue De Conde, Amiens

David Cox the Elder 1783 - 1859

Summary

A building with salmon-coloured walls and a white roof, with towers and spires, surrounded by high, white walls. Large trees behind the walls overhang it and cast speckled shadows; a single poplar grows outside the walls alongside the corner of the building. A sun-filled scene with clear, blue skies. Outside the entrance gates on the left hand side, is a group of female figures surrounding a male figure with a pair of donkeys laden with paniers. A strip of paper has been added along the bottom edge, presumably by the artist.
