Summary

A male robed figure sits on a marble seat and looks straight out at the viewer. His arms are stretched out to his sides and in his right hand he holds a book open at the page which reads, " I am the way and the truth and the life." Under his left arm is a large eagle with its wings outstretched and its head and beak turned towards the figure. In his left hand he holds the branch of a plant. Behind the figure are clouds and seven lit lamps forming an arch shape around him. The figure has an old, lined face, white hair and a very long beard, his head is surrounded by a halo. By his bare feet at the bottom of the image is a wooden bucket which has been knocked over.
