Design for stained glass for Eaton Hall Chapel: Dorcas, with Inscription for St James The Less
Frederic James Shields 1833 - 1911
Summary
Although the inscription is for St James the Less, this design is for the image that was to come below that of James in the window. Hence it is of a woman with a child, Dorcas, although the wording is about St James. Dorcas is the Greek name for Tabitha, whose story of charitable giving is told in the new testament of the Bible, Acts 9, 36-42.
