Summary

Venetian Scene taken from beneath the Porta della Carta as one re-enters St Mark's Square from the Doge's Palace. View looking down a street between two elaborate buildings to an open space, where people are gathered at the foot of a tower. In foreground, a large flag flies from balcony of building on right, under which a figure sits on the floor. On the left are two more figures, one is seated on steps surrounded by baskets and the other, wearing a cloak and hat, stands nearby.
