Summary

Stays of white cotton twill, lined with white linen. Stiffened throughout with narrow whalebone and with wider sections at centre front and back. 13 holes each side centre front for lacing, with white silk ribbon over slot for busk and all seams covered with checkered white silk ribbon. Top edge is shaped for arms and rises at centre back. Centre waist front is pointed, with a tabbed waistline and eyelet holes at each side of waistband. Perhaps altered during late 18th century.
