The Black Girl

John Farleigh

Summary

A nude black woman standing amongst trees. Plants obscure the lower half of her body, and hidden in the trees on the left is another woman. In the lower right corner of the composition is a mask-like face. The woman looks directly out at the viewer with a confrontational stare. An illustration from 'The Adventures of the Black Girl in her Search for God' by George Bernard Shaw, published by Constable & Company Ltd., London, in 1932.
