On the Trent near Nottingham

Henry Dawson 1811 - 1878

Summary

A wide view along the River Trent, near Nottingham, on a very calm day. There is a high wooded bank to the left, and a lower meadow to the right, with some horses standing at water's edge, drinking. The sunlight is the real subject of the painting, whose light creates various hues of brilliant colour in the water, on the trees, and in the sky.
