Summary

Vellum with overlapping vignettes in pen and ink of scenes of the Lake District. Two vignettes in watercolour of floral sprays and a central oval reserve in sepia of two children playing with a dog. Border top and bottom. reverse is lined with plain paper. Leaf splitting. Signed : "Charlotte Auguste Matilde 1785" and also written with a poem "Absent or Dead, Still let a friend be dear, A sigh the absent claims, The dead, a tear" Sticks are ivory lacquered in black and painted gold and colours with a Chinese dragon. Inlaid with mother of pearl. The heads are plain. Guards are similar with tortoiseshell inlay to the heads. (Face guard, borken twice at the shoudler). Screw rivet with paste.
