Summary
Plain ivory satin bra. Cups have no undercup section. Pointed profile. Underside of cup lined with white cotton. Satin ribbon shoulder straps with steel sliding adjuster. Back fastening with hook attached to elastic loop. Three bars on cotton tape attached to elastic loop. Size label in red : "36" Woven yellow on white : "Adlisette Size..... No..... 46" Card tag with metal eyelet tied to shoulder strap, printed in green : "For Every Figure Line There's an Adlis Design. This model is Adlisette Model 'A' by Adlis. No 46. 36 Size" on reverse is a flower of triangular petals each with the name of a design - Threeway - Decolet - Neolet - Princess - Lucille - Adlisette - Addlet. In centre of flower "by Adlis" plus : "Patented and manufactured by the Adlis Brassiere Co Ltd., Adlis House, Bishop's Rd, London SW6" Price pencilled on : "6/6" The earliest reference to Adlis Brassieres in a London Directory appears in 1935 (W Adlis, 122A Kings Road, SW3); from 1937 it appears as Adlis Brassiere Co Ltd and in 1940 the firm moves to Bishops Road, SW6. From 1961-64 it appears at 22 Sussex St SW1 and from 1965 there is no mention of the company. (Westminster Archives)
