Summary
Round flat hat of cardboard covered with unbleached linen above. This linen is used to bind the underside of the cardboard. Upper part of hat is covered with feathers radiating out from centre. The feathers used are small tips of plumes, or small game bird and chicken feathers. Background colour of white, with patches of coloured feathers arranged in quatrefoil design on the crown of the hat and in eight groups around the brim. The feathers used are dark brown, green (dyed or parrot), red (probably dyed), light red-brown, and brown-white striped (perhaps gyuinea fowl). Some of the white feathers about the crown have been curled. Inside the hat is lined with pink silk. Formely on loan to Exeter Museum - see article by Pam Inder in costume VII 1973. pp.62-67
