Summary

Coarse vegetable fibre - linen or similar interwoven in black horsehair and white silk in a honeycomb design. Fabric is reversible - upper side has white honeycombs on black and white ground, underside has black honeycombs. Large soft-brimmed circular flat hat. Edge of brim and inner edge of same bound with white silk ribbon, as is the edge of the crown. Band of the corwn is of a similar material but in a diamond weave pattern. This band is lined with a stiff ribbon of brown and white horsehair. all edges bound with white silk ribbon and joined with oversewing in white thread.
