Summary
A darker shade of red than matching cardigan. suggesting less wear. Cylinder shape 8" diameter and 7" deep, stitched by hand to light brown canvas lining fitting close to the head, giving the hat a baggy shape when worn. This is a later alteration. See also surviving cloche shaped brim of hat in earlier form, lined with gold woven artificial silk, stiffened with woven straw and cotton fabric, bound with tan cotton bias binding. Attached to this is a worn cream artificial silk lining.
