Summary

Public: Tea cup, coffee cup and saucer, soft paste porcelain, decorated in underglaze scale blue ground, with 'fancy birds' in iron red, green, pink, yellow and purple enamels and gilt. Private: Wide tea cup with curved base, narrow footring and ear shaped loop handle. Sides and handle decorated in underglaze scale blue ground with two rococo mirror-shaped reserves, filled with exotic birds in bright plumage against simple landscapes. These alternate with three vase-shaped reserves, filled with different winged insects. Small reserves round upper edge of cup, above vase reserves, also filled with insects. Reserves outlined in untidy gilt scrolls. Plain white footring, gilt cup rim and gilt detail on handle. Tall narrow coffee cup with ribbed handle, decorated with same pattern of birds and insects against scale blue ground. Deep saucer with curving sides and tapered footring. Same pattern of scale blue ground with three mirror-shaped and three vase-shaped reserves, round central circular reserve edged in scalloped gilt line and filled with single butterfly.
