Summary

Nine small intaglio seals, of differing sizes, six of black basalt, three of dark blue jasper, with different designs. 1) Tiny oval seal, black basalt, pattern of a classical vase, impressed W & B / 189 on convex reverse side (error, should read 187 according to 1779 catalogue). 2) Tiny oval seal, black basalt, head of Didia Clara, impressed W & B / 82 on convex reverse side. 3) Larger oval seal, black basalt, Hercules strangling the Nemean Lion, impressed Wedgwood / & Bentley / 9 on convex reverse side. 4) Tiny oval seal, black basalt, head of Anacreon, poet, impressed 227 on convex reverse side. 5) Tiny oval seal, black basalt, figure of Canopus(?) supporting a serpent and a vase on his head, impressed 259 on convex reverse side. 6) Larger oval seal, black basalt, two flat sides with straight edge, head of Oliver Cromwell on one side, classical Greek head on the other. 7) Larger oval seal, mid blue jasper, two flat sides with straight edge, two figures on a man and boy on one side, filled in in black. 8) Larger oval seal, dark blue jasper, two flat sides with lapidary polished bevelled edge, head of a bearded man, possibly Neptune. 9) Tiny oval seal, dark blue jasper, two flat sides with lapidary polished bevelled edge, copperplate initial L within a beaded border Anacreon & Cromwell, Oliver (1599-1658) & Didia Clara & Hercules & Canopus & Neptune (possibly).
