Rockingham Pottery 1745 - 1842

Summary

Globular buff stoneware body tapering to footring. Applied white stoneware handle and spout in the form of a serpent, open-mouthed to form a covered spout, with divergent scaly body wrapped round neck of jug and entwined on opposite side to form twisted white handle. Sprigged white relief below depicting a stag hunt, with four hounds attacking a stag in the centre, flanked on either side by a huntsman standing beside his horse. Band of ribbed turned decoration round lower body above footring.
