Ming dynasty Wanli reign blue and white dish
Summary
Two dishes made of Ming dynasty blue and white hard paste porcelain from the Wanli period. Decorated with birds and trees inside with a deep border divided into panels which are hand painted with floral patterns. The base is slightly concave. Also known as Kraak porcelain from the Dutch name for the type of ship in which porcelain was first found after the vessel had been captured in 1603. The decoration was widely copied at the delft and other European potteries.
