Summary

Public: Three-tiered money box, red earthenware, decorated with applied reliefs and white slip beneath a lead glaze. Private: Three-tiered money box in the form of tall thrown globular shape on flat, slightly flared base with vertical slot pierced at shoulder, surmounted by second and third tiers of similar shape decreasing in size, also with pierced slots. Thick horizontal ribs around joins of three tiers. Applied relief decoration around shoulder of each tier, comprising pinched clay pellets representing tiny birds, evenly spaced in two rows indicated by shallow incised lines. Large finial to top tier in the form of two simple birds sitting on a flattened circular platform. The whole decorated with thin coating of white slip in irregular streaks, giving overall orange and brown mottled effect through lead glaze.
