The Wartburg; The Place of Luther's Captivity in 1521

William Callow 1812 - 1908

Summary

This is a scene of a dark alleyway, predominately brown in colour, surrounded high up on all sides by rather dilapidated, timber-framed, thatched roof houses. A lone figure can be seen sitting in the doorway of one of the houses in the left background. The end of the alley is in darkness, except for an archway through which light can be seen. There is a light sky above and group of birds settled on the rooftops.
