Summary

Public: Shaped two-handled sauce boat, white salt-glazed stoneware, with relief decoration of pecten shells. Private: Oval sauce boat on spreading oval foot with slip-cast fluted border. Fine slip-cast body with deep lip at each end and flat shoulder beneath undulating rim along sides. Two ribbed strap loop handles, one in the centre of each side, each with pinched and flattened spur at lower terminal. Each side of sauce boat decorated in sharp relief with central motif around handle terminal, of small hexagon with two pecten shells above and below. Two large pecten shells, one to either side, differing slightly in detail. Underside of each lip decorated with elaborate double pecten motif flanked by two waisted panels of textured diamond ground. Fluted borders to shoulders along each side beneath undulated ribbing of neckrim. Extremely fine cast white body.
