Summary

Public: Oval sauce boat with a curved base on an oval foot with two strap loop handles, one in the centre of each side. White, salt-glazed stoneware body decorated in relief on each side with shells, greek key borders and diamond grounds. Private: Oval sauce boat with curved base on stepped spreading oval foot. Fine slip-cast body with deep lip at each end and undulating rim along sides. Two ribbed strap loop handles, one in the centre of each side, each with pinched and flattened spur at lower terminal. Each side of sauce boat decorated in relief with panel of curved shell fluting surrounded by narrow borders of textured diamond ground below and to sides. Narrow Greek key border above, enclosed by two bands of raised dots, surmounted by arched panel of diamond ground immediately below upper handle terminal. Underside of each lip decorated with oval panel of shell fluting, surmounted by two panels of textured diamond ground. Fine cast white body, with black spots and air bubbles, particularly on interior.
